This is me…

I’m a very bubbly person, who loves food, music & life…!!! Until recently I worked as an IT professional and like most IT professionals, juggling between work & home left me with no time to start a blog, though I always wanted to. (The time I was not at work or home was spent travelling to get to work & back.. the traffic in Bangalore is pathetic 😦 & then the few  hours left were to get a goods nights rest).  I know that there are some brilliant bloggers who are very regular & committed even though they have another full time job.. I salute them..!

Well, my journey into the culinary world did not start as an adult.. it was way back in the adolescent stage. Being Mangalorean played a huge role. Mangalore, Karnataka, India is a place where foodies’ thrive… and I would like to say that its a place where some of the most amazing gastronomic dishes have been invented. That’s my opinion though… 🙂 You may beg to differ. I’m a sucker for good food was in my blood, be it from any part of the world. The little that I have got to travel around the world also helped me get introduced to & taste different cuisines. 

Food blogging comes as a surprise to all my school friends.. they never ever thought food was an area which I would be interested as I was very tomboyish. My friends from engineering know about my adventures in cooking.. To save all of us from the same boring food on the menu, I taught the cook of our hostel mess a few recipe’s during my engineering days, imagine how crazy that is!! For those who do’t know what a mess is… its a dining area at a university hostel or sometimes it could even be commercial mess where they serve a decent meal for your money’s worth.  After university, my cooking adventures were at their best when we had house parties, specially the potluck parties.. as I got to experiment & I had loads of mouths to feed that experimented food to! (Wicked huh… 😉 )

I grew up in a joint family. We lived in our ancestral house. The red oxide flooring, cousins to keep company, lots of place to run around. Playful pet dogs (I’m a dog lover), backyard with many coconut other fruit bearing trees, not to forget 2 massive mango trees.. was like living in a mini paradise. As a kid I was always found out dirtying my hands in the mud, or busy following my grandmother everywhere. She would take me along with her to the fish market, to the grocers.  I watched her sit & clean the fish, cook yummy food the traditional Indian way, using firewood to cook food in mud pots. Sigh.. I miss those days..! I must say, food does taste so much better cooked in earthen pots, specially the fish curry.

Both my grandmothers are brilliant cooks (One is no longer with us though 😦 ). I always enjoyed everything that they made and so did all our relatives. My grandmothers have inspired me to cook. One was a Vegetarian’s delight and the other was a Non-Vegetarians delight, what more can a carnivore like me ask for… :D.

Being a GSB (Goud Saraswat Brahmin) I loved all the festivals we used to celebrate and the yummy Vegetarian food that was a part of it. If any of you do visit Mangalore during the Car Festival (Kodial Teru in Konkani – Yearly temple festival which lasts for 5 days​), do not miss the lovely food that is served in our Venkatramana Devasthana (Temple).Yes, I can go on about food.. 😀

I love my moms cooking 🙂 There would be a few who say that their mum does not know to cook !! I miss my mums food dearly, as I’m currently thousands of miles away from home.. in Glasgow, with my husband.  I’m not a big fan of the weather here.. It drizzles most of the time and keeps me indoors. So that made me devote my free time to do some soul searching & my love for cooking blossomed into Keli Paan.

Mangalorean food, Konkani style of Cooking & Tamilian food have influenced my cooking style a lot. I know that there are some very different recipe’s in my blog..  don’t worry… I would not post them if they were not worth posting.. 🙂 Many of them just spring up to me when I see ingredients in my fridge or at the market.

Cooking is like therapy to me. The best part of cooking is that once you know your ingredients it helps you create your own dishes. Believe me sometimes you just stumble on a tasty new dish. This encourages me to experiment further…!!

Yay.. its been a month since I started my food blog!!!! Thanks to my family and friends for all the support and encouragement. :)!!! and my dear husband Keshav who has all the patience in the world to keep his hands off the food while I finish my photography. Jokes apart , Keshav has been a great support and he has encouraged me a lot.

Also, I would like to thank another close friend, Praveen Rajaretnam for all the encouragement and help in pushing me to start blogging and get going. Thanks Praveen, for all the encouragement and support, if it wasn’t for you I would not have started blogging.

I would also like to thank Amol Kamat my best friend and a brilliant photographer by profession for all the support he has extended from India. You can check his work out at –

I just posted my 100th recipe today & I can’t really tell you the high I experienced doing so.. I’m feel so elated. Thanks to each & every one of you who has been visiting/ following my blog.

I also got a new lens – 50mm static. 🙂 which I use often now. 🙂

I have a long way to go.. these small milestones do call for a small quick note for sure.. 🙂  I read something today which I want to share with all of you.. “If you do not like where you are.. then change it.. You are not a tree.. ”  I’m glad I did take a step into blogging. Cheers, till the next milestone.. !

My self being from the Mangalore-Udupi region, I was trying to decode the meaning behind. 😉 You have a beautiful food site adorned with lovely shots.
