Sour Creamed Pasta with Broccoli & Red Pepper

I woke up late and had to fix a quick meal to carry along for my husband. Had some broccoli which I needed to use up. Immediately set some pasta to boil and started cooking. To wake me up completely I set my music player to play Mambo No5, 🙂 immediately my brain was awake as I began mumbling all the lyrics.. At the side started fixing up eggs for breakfast as well..

I love colours in my food. So chopped some red peppers as well. It adds up a sweet flavour to the pasta.

Very simple. Quick meal. Fills you up too. Also you can alter the sauce consistency to your choice.

You can also use Olive oil instead of butter. But believe me the butter adds a lot of flavour to this recipe. 🙂

Sour Creamed Pasta with Broccoli and Red Pepper

Ingredients: (Serves 1) Preparation Time: 15 mins
Pasta – 50-60gms, I used Fusilli
Broccoli – about one cup, cut into small florets
Red Pepper – One half of a medium-sized pepper, cut into small rectangles as shown
Garlic cloves – 2 medium-sized, chopped finely
Dry Basil – a pinch
Sour Cream – 1 tbsp
Crushed black pepper – as per your taste
Milk – 100 ml
Water – 60 ml
All purpose flour – 2 tbsp
Butter – half a tbsp
Salt to taste



In a big pot bring about a litre of water to a boil. Add enough salt and half a tbsp of oil to it. Add the pasta and cook the pasta based on the instructions given in the pasta packet. It may vary. I took 10-12 minutes to cook my pasta.

In the meanwhile mix the milk, water, all purpose flour. Make sure there are no lumps. Keep aside. If you like a thicker sauce you can use more milk and reduce the water content.

Meanwhile while the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a fry pan set to medium heat. Sauté the chopped garlic for about 20 seconds. Next add the broccoli florets and fry them for about a minute.

Sprinkle some salt for the broccoli. Add the basil and fry for a few seconds. Now add the milk, water & flour mixture to the fry pan.

Add some salt to taste. Let the sauce cook. Keep stirring in between. The sauce thickens when it is cooked. Taste it to make sure the sauce is completely cooked. Turn off the heat.

The Pasta should be cooked by now. drain the water out of the pasta.

Add the pasta to the sauce and mix well.

Let the pasta cool to almost room temperature.

Add the sour cream, red peppers & mix well.

Garnish with more seasoning if you wish to.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve with some hot garlic bread by the side, if you wish to.
